Jason Aldean
Jason Aldean is nominated for two Teen Choice Awards – Choice Country Male and Choice Country Song for "Tattoos on This Town" – this weekend. He admits he'd never thought much about the Teen Choice Awards before being nominated. "It's cool. For me anyway, that's a whole different demographic and awards show that kind of was never really on my radar… I never thought I'd be up for an award on there." But Jason is grateful for the nominations and he sees the value in being recognized by that demographic because he says, "Young kids are a big majority of the record buyers in the music industry, so if you're hitting that audience, that's a big deal for any artist."
Jason says just being nominated has made him instantly cooler to his two daughters, Keeley, who's nine, and Kendyl, who's four. Unfortunately he's unable to attend the awards this year, but he's hoping maybe he'll be nominated again in the future so he can take his girls to the show with him.
Blake Shelton was surprised when he received three nominations for this year's Teen Choice Awards, including Choice Country Male, Choice Country Song for "God Gave Me You" and overall Choice Male Artist. Blake's not sure why he got nominated, but he says, "I think that's because of my mouth, probably, more than anything, and social networking if I had to point to anything, along with The Voice." Whatever the reason he's so thankful that the kids still think he's cool enough to deserve a nomination. "I mean that's awesome!" he says. "Nobody wants to be the person that everybody's grandpa listens to. You want the kids to be into it and that's exciting to me. It always is. Anytime that I'm anywhere and somebody has a teenage kid that wants to meet me and have a picture, it's like, 'Oh, thank God!' because you don't want to be at that point where they're like, 'No, I don't want a picture with him. He's old and creepy.'"
Luke Bryan is nominated for the Choice Male Country Artist award at this weekend's Teen Choice Awards and he loves that he's relevant with that crowd. "I think as long as you're popping and you're hip and young, and making them pay attention, I think that's very flattering, because they're listening to all kinds of music," says Luke. "So, when you're able to grab a slot into their iPod and they nominate you, it's pretty cool stuff. So, we love anytime we get the Teen Choice nominations." Plus, looking at the long-term implications, Luke says, "They'll grow up 10 years from now and hopefully still be fans."
The Teen Choice Awards will air Sunday night on FOX.
