Fayetteville teens hoping to see Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Jay Z, or Lady Gaga in concert at the Crown Coliseum shouldn’t get their hopes up. It’s not very likely those artists will perform in Fayetteville.

The Crown Coliseum can hold only 9,000 people compared to the 23,000 seats in the PNC Arena in Raleigh. That means promoters would have to charge more for tickets at the Crown to cover the fee for the artist and expenses.

“This means that the tickets for a concert at the Crown would be very expensive, probably out of the price point for Fayetteville residents,” said Victor Landry, the event services manager for the Crown.

At the Crown, tickets range from $10 to $150 for events. Concert tickets for artists such as Drake, Taylor Swift and Justin Timberlake, who are scheduled to perform at the PNC Arena, are between $45 and $199.

So will the Crown hold events featuring some of the biggest singers that teenagers are interested in?

“We’re always looking for concerts that are a good fit for the market,” Landry said. “We could bring Miley Cyrus here, and the tickets would be $160 a seat, and nobody in this market, reasonably, could afford that.”

Fayetteville teens Aubree Dixson, Quieysha McDougle and Jaylnn McDougld said they would like to see their favorite artists in Fayetteville, but it would be too expensive and crowded.

The teens said they are willing to go to Raleigh to see top artists. They felt $10 to $40 were reasonable prices for tickets.

Taylor Posey agreed.

“I think that $40 would be a good price for a ticket,” said the Fayetteville teen.

The Crown tries to present events that are attractive to every demographic. The venue hosts affordable events, such as the Casting Crowns concert on Aug. 30 and Mike Epps Live! on Oct. 25, which are both very enjoyable, Landry said.

“I’ll recommend ticket prices based on this particular market,” Landry said. “If an artist’s promoter wanted to come here and charge $100 for a show, we would tell them that’s a little bit outside the price point in this market.”

Landry said the Coliseum offers a “Crown Insiders” Club that provides perks such as pre-sells, which allow members to buy their tickets before the rest of the public.

He suggested that people should avoid buying tickets from scalpers.

“I have a problem with the reselling market,” Landry said. “When a ticket is bought directly from the Crown Coliseum and resold for sometimes up to 200 percent the original amount, it’s the consumer who gets hurt by paying that much more than they had to.”

Landry recommends concert-goers buy tickets from ticketmaster.com, which is the Crown’s preferred website.
